We are a Living Wage Employer!

Posted: 23rd November 2017

We were really proud to celebrate Living Wage Week with a range of other Salford employers on Friday, November 10.

Held at the Angel Centre and hosted by Salford CVS and the GM Living Wage Campaign, we took part in a brunch and world café conversation on the proposed new GM Good Employment Charter.

Salford Primary Care Together is an accredited Living Wage employer. The accreditation, part of the Living Wage Foundation, means that everyone working at Salford Primary Care Together, regardless of whether they are direct employees or third-party contracted staff receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.45. This rate is significantly higher than the statutory minimum for over 25s of £7.50 per hour introduced in April 2017. The real Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. It is calculated according to the real costs of living.

Chief Executive Officer Neil Turton said: “We’ve joined the likes of IKEA and Aviva in choosing to become a Living Wage employer to make sure that the people working for us, either directly or as a third party, receive a good rate of hourly pay.

“As a Community Interest Company, this type of initiative is entirely in keeping with who we are and what we do. One of our aims is to benefit the community and use our finances and assets for the public good and so we are really proud to join around 3,500 other employers to voluntarily go further than offering the government’s minimum. We will pay the real Living Wage so that people can earn enough to meet the cost of living. After all, a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay.”
