Building work to start for state-of-the-art health centre in Salford

We were delighted to celebrate the start of building work at the new £4.6million health centre in the heart of Little Hulton.

The new health hub, which has been funded by Salford Primary Care Together, NHS Salford Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Greater Manchester Pension Fund, will be built on Longshaw Drive, on land adjacent to the current Little Hulton health centre.

It will bring together podiatry, speech and language therapy and diabetes clinics along with a smoking cessation service and mental health services.

Four GP practices – our Little Hulton practice, Dearden Avenue Medical Practice, Manchester Road East Medical Practice and Cherry Medical Practice – will use the state-of-the-art centre, which will serve around 13,000 of the Little Hulton population.

Representatives from the funding organisations and contractors gathered on Friday, August 23 to mark the start of the build, which is expected to be finished between summer and autumn 2020.

Lance Gardner, Chief Executive of Salford Primary Care Together, said: “Our Little Hulton GP practice was recently rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. By being located in this new centre, we are pleased our staff can offer the people they care for an environment to match the same high standard of care and treatment they provide.

“We are pleased to be sharing the new facility with the other practices and I am sure we will all watch with great pride as the new centre gradually takes shape before it opens its doors to people next year.”

Dr Tom Tasker, chair of NHS Salford CCG, said: “This new health centre will give people living in Little Hulton access to high quality, integrated services in modern and purpose-built surroundings.

“Throughout the development of these plans, the CCG and GP practices have been speaking to the local community about what they want from health and wellbeing services in the area and we’ve listened to those views. This new health centre is going to bring significant benefits to Little Hulton as their GP practice will be working from much more modern building, as well as bringing more hospital services into the community and closer to people at home.”
